A Collision Avoidance System for Aircrafts

چکیده

In the last two decades, thousands of people fly around the world every day giving the perception of the world as a global village. With the increase in air traffic, there have been more and more incidents of aircraft collisions. In this report, we design and implement a collision avoidance system for an aircraft when it is in the vicinity of airport. Our model is built on a discrete event simulator that simulates the air traffic near an airport, the message exchanges between the aircrafts and the corresponding message handling. In the model, each aircraft has a transponder that continuously transmits its position and velocity, and runs a distributed aircraft collision detection and resolution algorithm. When a collision is detected by the system, the aircraft will be warned within 60 seconds ahead of the collision and solutions are provided so that proper actions will be taken to avoid the collision.
